Biographical Summary
John Hamilton, designed of Newton, who obtained from Hugh, Lord Somerville, a charter for the five pound lands Tweedie, and the five pound lands of Catscastle, in the barony of Stonehouse, which was confirmed under the Great Seal of Scotland on 26 March, 1531. Register of the Great Seal of Scotland, 1513-46, charter number 999 on page 220 He married a daughter of Sir John Somerville of Quodquan.
