John Mathews Hamilton, a son of William and Mary Ann (Hamilton) Hamilton, was born in VA in 1828 and died in 1860.

He graduated from the University of VA in 1849 with an MD degree and practiced medicine in Weston, Lewis County VA (WV)

He married Mary Matilda Lorentz May 17, 1851. Mary was a daughter of John Lorentz.
