About John Hare

1820 Settler

John Hare (Baker) (34) together with his wife Esther Agnes Hare (Andrews) (28) and 3 children were part of Parker's party on the East Indian

Children:

William (7)

Martha Hester (5)

John Robert (2)

There were some reports that John Hare was born in County Cork Ireland and travelled on the Fanny, and others have that he was born in Worcestershire.

Sue Mackay writes:

"John Hare definitely appears on Parker's list. Dee Nash in The Settler Handbook only names John Adde and John Wolgrove as transferring to the Fanny, because the Fanny needed a medical officer. Otherwise Parker's party all appear to have sailed on the East Indian. I don't know where John Hare was born. He certainly got married in London, and his first three children were born there. The Settler Handbook says: "The majority of Parker's own indentured servants appear to have been recruited in London, where he was living from September to December 1819."John Hare was therefore not necessarily Irish. He could have been born almost anywhere in England, as London did prove a magnate for those looking for work. There are quite a few baptisms of John Hares in various parts of the country at about the right time, so I'm afraid I have no means of knowing where he was born in the absence of a death notice, which I can't find".
