About John Harrington, of Watertown
Confused with William Errington, whose widow was Ann Errington, “widow Errington”
John Harrington drowned in Boston Harbor in 1631. His origins are not known. .
- He was not the son of Sir John ‘the writer’ Harington, Knt., of Kelston & his wife Mary Rogers. Their son James died young. Their son John Harington, M.P., of Kelston married Dionysia Ley and never left England.
- He did not marry Ann Clinton, (died young) who died as a child and is not listed in her father’s will. Ann Fiennes Herrington, {Fictional} seems to be a construct.
Is this possible?
Note: The Harington son James died young. The Clinton daughter Ann died as a child.
AKA Sir James Harrington
James Harington married Anne Clinton, whose sister Katherine married John Booth, Baron Delamere of Dunham Massey. If you observe the family tree, the relationships become very clear. Barons Dunham Massey are the ancestors of the Bigelow (Baguley family) and are also related to the Legh family. These families are all kinship clans. (Warren, Bigelow, Clinton, Harington, Booth, Legh Bernard, Dudley et al). These families continued to marry each other after colonizing America. To view their relationships go to the link below to acquaint yourself with the background groups (pedigrees are included) Many of them were involved in plots to kill Queen Elizabeth. Therefore, there will be some issues tracking them. Again, an expert curator helpiing here would be good. Please read the background information provided here:

Because this is a critical family in English and American history expert curator assistance is needed.
Apparently drowned in Boston Harbor.
Another source (below) states: (however the dates don't work. He as a son of John works, and there are family ties that can be resourced to get this straightented out! That will never happen unless you start leaving sources here.
He was the son of James the seventh son of John Harington, of Kelston, Somerset, England, a well known writer and courtier of Elizabeth I and James I. His father had been involved in the surrender in Ireland with Robert Devereux and Henry Wriothesley, and he felt the wrath of Queen Elizabeth I. During the campaign Essex conferred a knighthood on Harington for his services. Essex fell into disfavour with the Queen for concluding the campaign by making a truce with Tyrone, which amounted to a virtual capitulation to the Irish rebels ("if I had meant to abandon Ireland, it had not been necessary to send you there" she quite understandably snapped at Essex), and also caused her fury over the large number of knighthoods he awarded.
His father had also for a time feared going to jail for acting as surety for the debts of his cousin, Sir Griffin Markham. Markham had become involved in the Bye and Main plots, and was sent into exile. Eventually, he recovered his lands, but a a long period of time he and his family must have suffered under the disfavour of Elizabeth I and for a time under James.
Sources: His wife was Lady Anne Clinton, daughter of Thomas Clinton, 3rd Earl of Lincoln, a noted Puritan sympathizer and supporter. There is some abiguity until you look at the history of the families involved and the political intrigues they were involved in back in England and then their realionships and why their children left becomes more clear.

-- Harrington Genealogical Gazetteer, by George Harrington, CS71.H311 1939
When John Harrington arrived in Boston Harbor in about 1630, with his wife and two young sons, Abraham, then aged 10 years, and Benjamin, then aged about 12 years, there was another Harrington boy, Robert, still in England, and who came to America some four years later in 1634, on the ship "Elizabeth," when he was 18 years old, probably at the expiration of a contract of apprenticeship? (Please note sources for this?). He disembarked at the same harbor in Boston, and settled in Watertown, Mass., a neighboring town to Charleston, and we find his name there on a list of land proprietors as early as 1642, and where, in 1649, he married Susannah George. It is thought that this Robert Harrington, and a brother of Abraham of Charleston, Mass., and Benjamin of Providence, R.I.

Lady Ann, born 1596, married Sir James Harrington and also emigrated to America, where she died in Charlestown, Mass., Christmas Day in 1632. She is not mentioned at all in her father's extensive will, in which he leaves all of his daughters money and even names servants, but the apparent family drama that resulted in this appears to be lost to history.

Notes: Was John or James who went to America in "Prosperous"? Was his wife Joan Jentilman or Anne Clinton? There is supporting evidence for both suppositions. Is possible that Joan Jentilman married both Robert and John Harrington, creating a confusion. American Genealogist V.20, 1944 p.46-47: "Family of Earl of Lincoln, the alledged Connection" states that "Ann Clinton died Young and is incorrectly stated to have married John Harrington". It also states that the family of the Earl of Lincoln left no known descendants here. "Robert Harrington of Watertown, MA." by Frederick Lewis Weis states that "There was a Robert Harrington Bap 1 Oct 1616, son of Robert who had married on 7 Mar 1613, Joan Jentilman (bap. 5 Jul 1603), daughter of William and Agnes Jentilman. Joan (Jentilman) Harrington m.2nd, 25 Jul 1622 to Rev. John Younges" This last marriages is also referred to in Torrey (p.846). Other says that John Harington, son of Sir John Harington and Mary Rogers, was born about 1584. He married Anne Clinton, daughter of the Earl of Lincoln, an influential Puritan who was very active in aiding that Sect in settling Boston after 1628. Anne was born in Newcastle, England, in 1596, one of a family of seventeen children. John and Anne came to Boston in 1630. He was drowned in the harbor soon after their arrival, leaving Anne a widow with four children, all of whom were born in England.
Not the son of Sir John ‘the writer’ Harington, Kt., of Kelston & his wife Mary Rogers. Their son James died young. Their son John married Dionysia Ley & never left England.
Sailed over on the "Prosperous" [did he? We only know of his wife]
John/James Harrington/Hearnden Married Ann Clinton-Fiennes on 07 MAR 1613 in Southwald, Suffolk, England. [SIC: her name was Ann Lidell]
