About John Heathcoat, Jr.
John Hathcock, Jr. was born about 1785 in or around Kershaw County, South Carolina. His father was John Hathcock, Sr. His grandfather was probably Thomas Heathcock, who migrated from Northampton County, North Carolina to Richmond County during the American Revolution. This particular part of South Carolina was undergoing devisions of counties during these early years. Part of Craven County was organized as The Camden District and Clarmont County of Camden District was formed in 1785. Later it became Kershaw County in 1798.

Living in Marion County, Tennessee in 1840 census. Living in Franklin County, Tennessee in 1850 census, (and son John). Living in Winchester, Franklin County, Tennessee in 1860 census, (and wife Elizabeth, age 75). In 1911, Martin M. Hathcoat said his Grandfather was John Hathcoat and was in the war of 1812 and his Grandmother was Elizabeth. (Dortha Heathcoat Gamel, 2002)
