About John Thompson Hendricks
John came to Iowa with his parents in 1840 and lived in Lee County. After the death of his father in 1843 his mother moved to Polk County Iowa where he lived until 1850. On his 21st birthday he went to Calfiornia to seek his fortune in the gold fields. He owned the Browns Valley Mercantile and ran it for several years with his brother Martin.
