John Henry Van Rhyn died on April 8, 1864 in Ponce, Puerto Rico. John is buried in the Holy Trinity Cathedral ( Anglican) in Port of Spain, Trinidad.

This books mentions the following: John's tombstone is located on the north wall of the nave's church. On his side, his two infant daughters (Adelaide Emily and Grace Evelina) are buried. Also his sister in law, Evelina Margaret Basanta, is buried there.
