About John Adkinson Hoagland
John A. Hoagland, 67, died Sunday, at 4 p.m. at his residence in New Castle. Death was attributed to heart trouble. He was a farmer for many years and later became deputy sheriff of Henry County under J. S. Snodgrass and a few years hence was Chief of Police of New Castle. He was a member of the New Castle Methodist Church and of the New Castle Masonic Lodge since early manhood.
Funeral services were conducted at the McCarty Funeral Home in New Castle, Tuesday afternoon at 3:30, with Rev. C. L. Cooper officiating, assisted by Rev. James Highfield. Burial was in charge of the New Castle Masonic Lodge at the New Castle Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife: Mrs. Lucy May Hoagland; one daughter: Mrs. Walker Thomas; one son: John A. Hoagland, Jr., Ft. Bragg, NC;, one sister: Miss Lucy Hoagland, Lexington; two brothers: W. D. Hoagland, Cincinnati and Roy Hoagland, New Castle.
