In February 1676, Mr. John Hollister, son of Lt. John Hollister, then deceased, invited the Wongum Indians to assist him in building a "fort" at Nayaug, where he was then living; and it is suppsed that they, being afraid of the Narrangassetts, aided in the construction of a defensive work on Red Hill, and this became the seat of those thereafter called the Red Hill Indians.

(This hill of sand of a reddish color in South Glastonbury, CT bears this name in a deed of Hugh Wells to Daniel Rose Dec. 3rd, 1663. It was on the Mitchell Tract of 900 acres at Nayaug.)

GEDCOM Note

John Hollister Jr., was one of the principal men of Glastonbury, where he died November 24, 1711.
He seemed to possess the belligerent spirit of his father.
Was for some years engaged in the noted lawsuit between Hollister and Bulkley over the boundary line of certain lands.
Which trial resulted in a resurvey of all the 'lots' of the Hartford line to Nayaug by order of the general court, and which has been preserved in the archives of the State.

The papers preserved relative to this case are of importance to the history of the town.
This was in 1684-85. See Chapin's ('Glastonbury for Two Hundred Years,' pages 181 182 183.)"
