When John Holmes 3 was born on 22 March 1662, in Plymouth, Massachusetts Bay Colony, British Colonial America, his father, John Holmes II, was 25 and his mother, Patience Faunce, was 20. He married Sarah in 1690, in Middletown, Penobscot, Massachusetts, United States. They were the parents of at least 6 sons and 4 daughters. His occupation is listed as yeoman, one who farms his own land in Plymouth, Plymouth, Massachusetts, United States. He died on 7 September 1728, in Duxbury, Plymouth, Massachusetts Bay Colony, British Colonial America, at the age of 66, and was buried in Middleborough, Plymouth, Massachusetts Bay Colony, British Colonial America.

CIrca 1690, John Holmes married Sarah Thomas[1] [2]. Their children included[3]:

  3. John, born May 28, 1694[3] [7]
  4. Cornelius, born January 14, 1696/7[3] [8], who married Lydia Bennett in 1721
  5. Sarah, born October 28, 1699[3] [9]

Sarah died October 27, 1700[10].

Before 1704, John re married Experience[3]. Their children included:

  1. Samuel, born November 21, 1704[3] [11]
  2. Benjamin, born October 9, 1706[3] [12]
  3. Thomas, born January 7, 1708/9[3] [13], who married Mercy Wood[14]
  4. Susannah, born October 13, 1711[3] [15], who married David Miller, the son of John Miller and Lydia Coombs

Experience died April 18, 1726 in her 55th year in Plymptom Mass.

Probate

John died intestate, and on 17 September 1728, his son Nathaniel was granted the administration of his estate.[17]

In 1728, his daughters, Priscilla and Susanna both between the age of 14 and 21 made the choice of Mr. Jacob Chipman as their guardian.[18]

In 1729, his estate division was set out to Patience Cushman, wife of Ichabod Cushman, Samuel Holmes, Susanna Miller, wife of David Miller of Middleborough, Benjamin Holmes, Priscilla Holmes, Sarah Sturtevant, wife of David Sturtevant of Kingston, and Cornelius Holmes.[19]


Origins

On November 21, 1661, John Holmes married Patience Faunce, the daughter of John and Patience (Morton) Faunce of Plymouth[1] [3].

Their children included[2]:

  1. John Holmes, b. 22 Mar 1662/63, who married Sarah Thomas in 1689
  2. Nathaniel Holmes, b. about 1666; d. between 23 Jan 1735 and 18 May 1737. He m. Eleanor BAKER 13 Mar 1700 in Plymouth. They had children Mercy, Nathaniel, Joshua, Patience, Eleanor, Joseph, Benjamin, Richard, and Melatiah
  3. Ebenezer Holmes, b. about 1670. He m. Phebe BLACKMER 26 Dec 1695 in Plymouth. They had children Ebenezer and Elizabeth.
  4. Thomas Holmes, b. about 1673; d. before 12 Mar 1754. He m. Joanna MORTON 6 Jan 1696/97 in Plymouth. They had children Joanna, Jemima, Thomas, and Abner.
  5. Joseph Holmes, b. about 1676. He m. Lydia (GRISWOLD) BARTLETT between 1703 and 1705. They had children Fear and Joseph.
  6. Desire Holmes, b. about 1679. She m. John CHURCHILL, son of Joseph and Sarah (HICKS) CHURCHILL and brother of Margaret CHURCHILL, 19 Nov 1700 in Plymouth. They had children Priscilla, Samuel, Sarah, Phebe, and Rebecca.
