John Hunter, here treated, was a tenant at Gordon in Berwickshire. Apprentices Only one man named John Hunter is noticed in the old parochial registers of Gordon between 1667 and 1710, and that is John Hunter in East Gordon. His name is first noticed on 13 October 1667, when the baptism of his daughter Jenot Hunter was registered, and his name is last noticed on 8 February 1700, when, as a church elder, he took part in the meeting of the Kirk Session which met at Gordon parish in Berwickshire, probably at the Manse there. [NRS: CH2/457/1 folio 143]

Death

A date and place of death have not yet been identified for John Hunter, here treated. He was alive on 8 February 1700, when he took part in a meeting of the Kirk Session which met at Gordon, [NRS: CH2/457/1 folio 143] but he died before 2 August 1710, the date upon which his son James Hunter, Master Wright in Edinburgh was booked 'prentice with George Campbell, wright in Edinburgh. The marriage record reads as follows: "Their is purpose of mariage betwixt John Hunter in this paroch and Agnes Mure in the paroch of Crighton ane testificat receved for the woman her part dated at Crighton May 21: 1670 [signed] by Mr John Hannay Ane testificat granted to John Hunter to be proclamed in mariage with Agnes Mure."
