Ingles Ferry is a historic farm in Radford, Virginia, USA. It is both a working, commercial farm as well as a historical preserve where living history interpreters depict life in the late 18th century. Radford is now an *independent city* between Montgomery County and Pulaski County in Virginia.

Ingles Ferry was originally a farm and small plantation owned by William INGLES, husband of Mary Draper Ingles. They settled there a few years after Mary's escape from Indian captivity. They raised three daughters and one son, John. Around 1762, William obtained a license to operate a ferry across the New River. The farm is a fully protected historical site.

The farm and historical preserve remain in the hands of Mary Draper Ingles descendants. Although John Ingles' house is closed to the public as a private residence, the cabin and historical preserve are open to the public on select weekends throughout the spring and summer. (wikipedia.org)

DESCRIPTION of Ingles Ferry property:

Although the Ingles family controlled both sides of the New River at the ferry site, the main base of their establishment was located on the *Pulaski side. At the height of its operation, Ingles Ferry included the tavern (which also contained a store), stables and the ferry house. The earliest portion of the tavern was erected in 1772 with logs from an abandoned fort. Several additions were made, but the only remaining portions of the building are the early one-story log section and an early nineteenth century two-story frame wing. At present, the remains of the tavern are unoccupied and are in a poor state of repair. The one-story ferry house which contained the winch used to propel the boats burned in 1967, and only its two chimneys remain. Across the river, on the Radford side, stands Ingleside, a two-story frame house erected by JOHN INGLES in 1790. The house is in excellent condition and is owned by descendants of the Ingles family.
