John Irish, Sr.

JOHN IRISH Sr. was b. on 13 Apr 1724 in Old Falmouth (now Gorham), Cumberland Co., ME., and died in Buckfield, Oxford Co., Me.; m. SARAH _____.

He participated in the siege and capture of Louisburg in 1745. He received a grant of land at Pearsontown (Standish), Cumberland Co., ME for his service at Louisburg. "1st Regiment of Massachusetts...commanded by Col. Wm Pepperill...10th Company...raised in Falmouth (Maine) in March, 1745, was under the command of Capt. Moses Pearson of Falmouth...in 1750 the General Court granted to Capt. Pearson and forty-five others, for their services at and around Louisburg, what was known as Pearsontown until its incorporation as the town of Standish. Among the names of these grantees are the following who were, either before or afterwards, connected with Gorham: Gamaliel Pote, James Gilkey, Jeremiah Pote, Elisha Pote, John Irish and John Ayer."
