John "Jock" Rutherford (12 October 1884 – 21 April 1963) was an English footballer who played in the Football League for Arsenal, Clapton Orient and Newcastle United. He also had a very short and unsuccessful spell as manager of Stoke
On March 20, 1926 he became the oldest player ever to have appeared for Arsenal - and that record still stands to this day.
Born in Percy Main, North Shields, Northumberland
His brothers, Septimus Eric (Sep) and Robert Edward (Bob), were also professional footballers, and his son, John, was on Arsenal's books at the same time as his father, but he only ever played one League match for the club. His great-grandson, Greg Rutherford is the 2012 Olympic long jump champion.
