About John Johnson
ohn Johnson was a well known land surveyor, designer, and builder. He was appointed surveyor general for the state of Vermont from 1812 - 1822. During that time, he wa selected to oversee the northeastern boundery between the United States and Canada. His final report of that project became the basis of the Webster-Ashburton treaty of 1842, which established the border between the United States and Canada.
John Johnson designed and built bridges, mills, and dams throughout Vermont. He also designed buildings for the University of Vermont, inlcuding Grasse Mount, the Old Mill, and Pomeroy Hall
