Captain John Kemper
1775-1784 – American Revolution Captain Kemper was in charge of General Washington's special convoy and only main line of support for the entire Continental Army. He maintain General Washington's special protection from the interference and detention by any of his senior officers. John later became a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy. He entered the brig Hector and did battle with the British HMS Iris on the Delaware River. He was then captured, imprisoned on the Scorpion and Jersey Prison ships and under the Provost Marshal, Captain William "Bloddy Bill" Cunningham in New York City. John was then transferred by order of Admiral Sir George Bridges Rodney to Mill Prison, England on board the 64-gun man of war, HMS Old Yarmouth.
