About John Kendrick
John Kendrick was the first Kendrick in Washington County. He came from Henry County (part of Pittsylvania County until 1776), where he and his sons signed the oath of allegiance on September 13, 1777. His name appears in Washington County in the 1782 list of tithables, along with his sons, Thomas and John. On August 13, 1781, he was granted 400 acres of land on the North Fork of the Holston River. He was granted an additional 1000 acres on January 12, 1783.
His estate was divided by a deed recorded September 21. 1802. His heirs are named Elizabeth Kendrick, widow and the following children: Thomas, John, Mary Burks (wife of John Burks), and Rachel Allen (wife of William).
