Family lore claims that the Kidd family left Scotland for America because of political differences. They were loyal to Clan Ferguson and had their own tartan as well.
John Kidd, who married Polly Watson, was in Scott County, VA in 1820 and his son, George W. Kidd, who married Frances Stanley (d/o George Stanley & Winnie Roberts), was still in Scott County in 1840. George & Frances then showed up in the 1850 Floyd County, KY Census. The Kidd families are still living on the same land on Prater Creek in Floyd County, that they have since the mid 1800's.
