John Lais

LEBANON — John Lais, 86, died Tuesday.

He was born in Hubbard and married Barbara (Kropf) in 1938. They lived in Junction City for 42 years. He mowed streets of Harrisburg for several years. In 1983 he moved to Albany and in 1993 to Lebanon. He worked in sawmills and was a member of the Audubon Society.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Idella Mukasa of Santa Ana, Calif., Irene Bornman of Senegal, West Africa; son, Dan of Lebanon; sisters, Lilly Berkey, Vera Garber, Dorothy Gingerich, all of Hubbard, Evelyn and Marge Birky, both of Kalispell, Mont., Ruth Zehr and Frances Hoover, both of Goshen, Ind.; brother, Frank of Hubbard; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Visiting will be 5 to 7 p.m. today at Lebanon Mennonite Church where he was a member. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Zion Mennonite Church in Hubbard. Interment will be at Zion Mennonite Cemetery. Contributions: Western Mennonite School, care of the mortuary.
