About John Landess
John Landess, the middle child of Jacob Landess and Mary (Reynolds) Landess' thirteen children, was raised in Highland County, Ohio. His father's Swiss Mennonite ancestors were martyred for their religious beliefs. The surviving family fled to the Palatines. His grandparents (as children) and great-grandparents arrived in Pennsylvania in the early 1700's, with waves of other Palatinate refugees.
John, an Ohio farmer, married Sarah (Sally) Jane Roush, a descendant of Lutheran Palatine emigrants to Virginia. At the time of her death, in 1830, they had eight children. John then married Susannah Roush Shaffer, and their family grew to over thirteen children. He died in Grant, Indiana at age 52.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Apr 22 2023, 15:25:18 UTC
