Daily Evening Bulletin - Maysville, KY 4/21/1883 (Chronicling America) Deputy United States Marshal Murdered Ft. Smith, Ark., April 19. News has just reached here of the murder, yesterday morning, of Deputy United States Marshal D. H. Lyman, in the southern part of the Choctaw Nation, by John S. Lennox, a Texas desperado, Lennox came to the Marshal's camp with a band of outlaws, shot down Lyman, and released the prisoners who were in his custody.

Lennox is convicted of manslaughter for killing George Howard the person that turned him in for killing Thomas Young in 1882 who was trying to capture Robert Jones for killing Dr. SW Bailey.
