There were several sons in the French family other than Mathew, among them William and James, and a daughter Esther, who married John Locke.[2]

John's second marriage was to Rachel Hamilton in about 1802 Virginia (West Virginia).[3]

The following was written in a publication when he died. "John Lock died, on Saturday last after a lingering illness. Mr. John Lock senior, in the 85th year of his age, one of the oldest and most respectable citizens of the County."[4]John and Esther are buried at Edge Hill Cemetery, Jefferson Co., West Virginia. They were originally buried on private land and moved to Edge Hill Cemetery[5]
