Ann died 12 May 1785 in Green Twsp, Green Co., PA, and was buried in _________, __________, __________. John died __ ___ 1785 in Washington Co., PA, __________, and was buried in _________, __________, __________. John Long Jr. and Ann Herrington were married in St Luke's Episcapol Church at Church Hill, Queen Ann Co., MD. John Long Jr died sometime after 12 May 1785.
This couple may have been born in Williamsville, Baltimore Hundred, Sussex Co., Delaware. They were in Queenes Co. MD before 1754 in what is now known as Greens Co., PA. They lived on the waters of Whitely and Dunkards Creeks in Washington Co., PA. Some time later they left for Fayette Co., PA where their daughter Ann married George Debolt. This was taken from John Long's will, found in Washington Co., PA Wills, (Vol 1, page 60) registered 29 March 1786.
All 7 of John Jr.'s sons were in the revolutionary War. Reference: "Ten Mile Country and It's Pioneers." (9 volumes by Howard Leckey). The history of this particular Long family is found in Volume 9. Also refer to Genealogical Society of PA, Volume VI, page 141 and Greene Co., PA Historical Society Records; PA Archives Vol. 2, Series VI Page 18, 19, & 141. David, John, Eliel, and Noah served in John Guthery's Company in the Revolution. Gideon served under Capt. John Wilson and Col. Mackey and Broadhead. Martha Hall, who is a descendent of Jeremiah states, "Gideon and Jeriamiah were in the 8th Pennsylvania Continental Line which was encamped at Valley Forge in the terrible winter of 1777 78.” This is also mentioned in PA Archives Volume VII, Series 6, pages 18 and 19. In the book, The Ten Mile Country and its Pioneers Vol 9, says the following about the Long Family.” Some time prior to 1771, John Long (Jr) and wife Ann with their seven sons and a daughter left their home in Maryland to settle on the waters of the Whiteley and Dunkard Creeks.” One record says that John Long Jr. was originally from Williamsville, Baltimore Hundred, Sussex County, Delaware, but it is evident that before 1754 he had moved to Queen Ann's Co., MD. where some of the children were born. It appears that this family stopped for a time in what is now Fayette County, PA where their daughter met and married John DeBolt. Such a stop was only an interlude and before 1776 they were on the west side of the Mongahela River where John died about 1785. His will was probated in Washington, PA on 12 May 1785 and is in Will Book 1 Page 60. No land was definitely granted to John Long Jr, nor is there any record of Military Service that can be assigned to him with certainty. His will does list his wife and children. Military Records for his seven sons who were in the Revolution are in the Pennsylvania Archieves Vol 2, Series VI, pages 18 and 19 except for Jerimiah who is shown on page 171 of that Volume. John Long Jr's wife was Ann Herrington daughter of David Herrington. David Herrington was the youngest son of John Herrington Sr. of Talbot County., MD. John Long Jr and Ann Herrington were married on 7/12/1743 at St Luke's Parish Church in Church Hill, MD. When David Herrington died he gave his farm Hopewell, to Ann. John and Ann sold the 100 acre farm in 1752 and moved to Mongahela Township in Washington County. The Long and Herrington farms fell within the bounds of St Luke's Parish Church. At St Luke's, Elizebeth Long, daughter of John Long Sr., married William Roberts on 3/17/1737. Robert was of English ancestory and they lived on Roberts Range. After 1758, the Herringtons may have attended St John's Church as it was closer to their home. In 1770 Nathan Herrington, (Ann's younger brother) and who had inherited the home farm of Beaversdam, is recorded as the owner of a pew in St John's Church at Bridgetown, MD. Beaversdam, which was later know as Ingleside was located on the east side of the upper Tuckahoe River.
