John Francis Lorrain

JOHN F. LORRAIN BURLINGTON - John F. Lorrain, 81, of Burlington, died on Sunday, Dec. 5, 2010 in Fletcher Allen Health Care. He was born in Fairfield on Dec. 6, 1928 the son of the late Arthur and Diana (David) Lorrain. John was a World War II veteran having served with the US Air Force. John served in Okinawa, the United States, and Germany. John met his lovely wife Ann in 1947 while serving at Westover Field in Massachusetts. They were married on Nov. 19, 1949 in Springfield, Mass. They moved to Vermont in the fall of 1957. John was a baker, a construction worker on the Interstate 89 project, and then worked and retired from GE after 23 years. He was an avid golfer and birdwatcher. John is survived by his wife Ann Lorrain of Burlington; their six children, Diane Winters of Niwot, Colo., Mark Lorrain of Colchester, Peter Lorrain and wife Marie of Burlington, Suzanne Pearl and husband Tom of St. Albans, Paul Lorrain and wife Mary of Colchester, and David Lorrain and wife Amanda of Essex Jct.; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his sisters, Georgette LaPointe, Marie Liberty, Jane Hamelin, Diana Farrell; and by his brother, Donald Lorrain. He was predeceased by his brothers, Robert, Wilfred, Albert, Roger, and Paul; a sister, Lucille Comeau; and his brothers-in-law, Roland Comeau, William LaPointe, George Hamelin, and Howard Liberty. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010 at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph Co-Cathedral. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Ready Funeral & Cremation Service South Chapel, 261 Shelburne Rd., Burlington.
