Biography:

It is not clear exactly where his family was living prior to 1850. In the 1850 census, his parents were living in Asheville, Buncombe, North Carolina, where his father was a "trader" at first, and then a butcher (he had a butcher shop on Asheville's town square).

In 1865, John Rufus Lusk married Sarah Ann Robeson, the daughter of Andrew Center Robeson & Elizabeth Duckett. They lived in Asheville at first, where John worked as a wagoner. They eventually moved out of town to Sandy Mush and settled near Sarah's family. They lived in the Sandy Mush/Leicester area for the remainder of their lives.
