Glasgow Herald newspaper (Page 7) Headline - Collapse on bowling green.... The death occurred at James Place, Busby on Wednesday night of Mr J Mackie who was well known in the public life of the area. A week ago he collapsed on the bowling green after finishing a tie. He was a member of the local Lightening and Scavenging committee and was serving his third term as chairman of Mearns Parish Council. He was a past master of Lodge Busby St John 458 and was a familiar figure throughout the province of Renfrewshire East. Mr Mackie who was a master baker in Busby and East Kilbride is survived by his wife and two children.
