About John Mahiai Miller Mela Kaneakua

John was hanai ('d) forever, kanaka maoli style... by James Kaneakua; he then became known forever as John Mahi'ai Kaneakua.

To respect the ancient ways still being practiced in the 20th and 21st centuries by Native Hawaiians, I no longer consider John's line to be Miller, let alone Mela; it has become a Kaneakua line to honor his hanai-forever (Dynastic) father who is reported to have had no other keiki of his biological "own true."

He must have been a devoted father. In accordance with hanai practice, this was his son to take his ohana firmly into the future...Overthrow or Kingdom still.

It is only Right. It is pono,..... to honor this state of affairs left by our mutual kupuna of ancient times. Lptm

The rational: Once hanai ('d), you cannot go back to your own true parents/family- even though your own true ohana siblings and descendants may yearn to call you their own, and look across the deep divide with aloha and well-wishes.

Even though foreign ways/laws/governments/leaders decree that hanai is heathen.

It is very pono with Native Hawaiians. Lptm

Note: Only now I dare write about this awesome Native Hawaiian, because questions arise only now within my ohana as to the Kaneakuas and their "possible" connection to the Miller Mela/Tiltons.

We do not "know" the Kaneakuas, though I have kept tabs on individuals during my adult life... as I could through the obituaries. I believe I attended one or two of their funerals without making myself known to the family up front. I aloha all of them from a distance. Lptm

Hope I alienate no one on planet earth for typing this manao.

If so, please forgive.

Also, let me know, and I will delete this page.

The only reason I dare at this time is to express the manao: That Oral Family History whispers suggest that great great great grandpa Alika, Jr. died with not a mention of this son of his...... on our genealogy chart, knowing that by hanai, he could no longer claim this one.

We are mindful of the pain when one loses a son out of aloha and in accordance with the ancient ways; we have other kupuna who did the same with the same full heart of love, to share the God-given bounty.

I was supposed to be hana ('d) by dad and mom to my Auntie Lucas Lucy Tilton, so she could have her younger brother's first born with wife #2 to train personally to take her place as ohana genealogist. Mom had promised her in a moment of pregnant weakness, because Auntie Lucas had cared for her when mom had been "disowned" by her own family for marrying daddy.

But daddy, by then aware that this Overthrow was most likely not going to be Overturned, said...."No!" at the last moment after I had already arrived. Then he took a photo posing him and me in front of our black oldsmobile with our Kamaka/Tilton Waikane Mountains (ancient piko) in the background.

Auntie knew she would only be auntie to me.

She then instructed mom on how to train me to take her place when she left for heaven.

I knew about this, but try as I may.....I never got her to interact with me in any way except... just as my auntie. She was pono; she never tried to subvert her brother's [Kini's] decision to keep me. Others tried in other ways for other legacy training plans....and failed.

Auntie Lucas did not even try.

I know what it is like to live in a family where the pono ones leave much to be admired, in the way they live their lifes, day-to-day.

I remember always her life, lived with integrity no matter what challenges came her way.... as a pronounced/declared [by the Overthrowers and the American congress].... American, by birth. Lptm
