Morgan,
If this is the George that so many of us are looking for than you have more info than we do. There was a George Malcolm who shows up in the Virginia Militia as early as 1745. He is with George Washington at Fort Necessity during the French and Indian War. It is believed that his wife was named Sarah. According to the Highland Cty, Va website he is listed as the father of Joseph and John. However, we have Joseph's will and he refers to George as his "unkle", a soldier. Of course there could be more George's, John's, and Joseph's. They used the same names over and over. So far no one has been able to trace George back to his parents or when he came to America, or even if he was the first to come to America. There is evidence of Malcolm's going back to the 1600's in Virginia but we cannot connect the dots yet.
Can you tell us where you got the information of this George coming to Augusta cty, Va in 1620? The records of Augusta don't seem to go back that far.
Thank you,
Carly Malcolm Henderson
Morgan:
hey,
i actually got that info from my grandmother. she traced the family back to the generation before joseph, and john. then she got a paper from someone w/ the info about george.
i have no idea where the person got it from.
i sent a message to a malcolm geneologist from scotland and asked if they had any info on george. the only info they had in their system was that he was born in scotland.
Carleen: Morgan,
It looks like some real detective work is going to be needed to prove what your grandmother found on the Malcolm line. I'm wondering if you have taken a look at the Chalkley History of Augusta Cty, Va. There is an index and many references to Malcolm/Malcom/Melcum and other varied mis-spellings. George is in there too. Here is the link.

Also take a look at www.usgenweb.com and go into Virginia and then the Highland cty site. There you will find the entire Malcolm/Malcomb/etc genealogy. That's where George is listed as the father of John and Joseph. As I stated before, the will of Joseph refers to George as his "unkle" so the info in this genealogy may be wrong. I'm guessing that the information that your Grandmother had may have come from this source. If she got it elsewhere then it could be important to all of us in researching George's connection to our Malcolm lines.
I am a direct decendent of Joseph and can prove, through documents, that line. However, with George it gets fuzzy and no one has found the proof of his place in the line-up so far.
Which of the lines are you from?
Carly
From Carleen:
IT seems I answered this posting on my own last response. I forgot to add that many people believe that George's wife Sarah died and he, following Daniel Boone, went to Tennessee and married a Dinah Gregg and had many more children. He is supposedly buried in Blount Cty, TN. In any case, George does disapear from Augusta Cty, Va. before the American Revolution.
