About John McCormick
John McCormick Born 1741 in Fort William became a prosperous merchant in Gordonsburg attached to Kilmallie Parish in Scotland. He died in 1811, probably in Glasgow. (His tombstone is in the Craig's graveyard of Lochaber, a Parish of Ft. William. The tombstone reads "Sacred to the memory of John McCormick merchant Fort William who died 1811 aged 70. The honest man's the noblest work of God. Erected 1871 by his affectionate grand children to replace the original monument which was accidentally destroyed") John married three time and had sons Daniel and Alexander who both married Minnie Fitzpatrick, first Daniel and when he died Alexander. There is evidence of John’s presence in the West Indies because he signed the back of a Brunias print of a scene in Dominica , “John MacCormick, my property, 1778. Also in the 1780’s John placed a notice in St. Croix’s The Danish-American Gazette that he would be leaving the Island, and to see him about any debts or business before his sailing.
