A brief summary of his will is included in Chronicles of the Scotch-Irish Settlement in Virginia by L. Chalkley. The entry is dated May 6, 1758, and he names all of his children except Margaret and Esther. He does name two sons in law, who must be the husbands of these two daughters, as William Caruthers and James Hope. The will was proved on November 15, 1758.
John McCroskey was born in Wigtown, Ayr, Scotland in 1680 and died
in Augusta County VA May 6, 1757. He married Elizabeth Gay in Ireland.
The family came to America in 1730 and settled on the Borden Tract in
Rockbridge County VA. John's will was recorded in Rockbridge County
May 6, 1758.
