About John Laughlin McLaurin

John Laughlin McLaurin was born in Marlboro, South Carolina according to the history of Banks McLaurin near Clio. His father Lauchlin or Laughlin McLaurin built the house which has been placed in the list of historical homes. The house has been updated and built on to, but has remained in the family line since that purchase. It appears, he was a farmer in that area. They did not have many descendants as several of the children did not marry and several died young. Some of the sons were in politics, some were doctors. His father, was born in Scotland and came to the United States in time for the 1790 census, lived first in North Carolina and then just over the border in Marlboro County, South Carolina. John Laughlin McLaurin married Elizabeth M. Bethea in 1825 who lived in Marion County, her parents were Tristram B. Bethea and Anna Pearce.
