Some researchers state he was buried in the Red Hill Cemetery, Greene County, Ms. If he was , he has an unmarked grave. He does have a son, John McLean buried there. There is no sign of him or his wife in the Red Hill Cemetery. It is also possible they could be in the Slay Cemetery, Greene County, Ms. in an unmarked grave. They were the parents of at least 12 children.

John Alexander McLain was the husband of Mary Matilda Norris. He was born about 1805 and died after 1880. Some researchers state he was buried in the Red Hill Cemetery, Greene County, Ms. If he was , he has an unmarked grave. He does have a son, John McLean buried there. There is no sign of him or his wife in the Red Hill Cemetery. It is also possible they could be in the Slay Cemetery, Greene County, Ms. in an unmarked grave.
