Biographical info from B. Morrow:
Born in Washington Co PA, son of Thomas McMillan and Jane Douglas. Descendant of Rev. John McMillan, an early Presbyterian minister and educator in southwestern PA. Husband of Ora Maude Beck.
Custer County Chief, Broken Bow, Custer Co NE, Friday 19 April 1912 - J. A. McMILLAN was born March 19, 1866 and departed this life on March 29, 1912. He was united in marriage to ORA M. BECK September 14, 1909. Funeral services were held at the home of R. A. Hunter in this city, conducted by Rev. Frazer of the Presbyterian church and Rev. Sprague of Thedford. He leaves a wife, child, father, mother, two brothers and two sisters. Beside a host of friends to mourn his loss. Early in life he confessed his Saviour, and united with the Presbyterian church, and his daily life attested to the loyalty with which he regarded that Saviour. His integrity of character and loyalty to friends make his death an intense sadness to many. Knowing him as we did, we believe he saw his Pilot face to face when crossing the bar. To the sorrowing ones we would quote the words of the Master: "He giveth his beloved sleep." "I will come again and receive you unto myself, that where I am, there ye may be also." A Friend.
Buried next to his wife and daughter, Urith. Inscription reads, "JOHN A. McMILLAN 1866 - 1912"
