About John J. McQuillan
John J. McQuillan was the son of Robert McQuillen and Catherine Morgan McQuillen (note spelling change). He married Mary McCauley, and they had four children: Catharine, Margaret, Mary, and Robert.
He was in an industrial accident when he was cutting down an empty acid tank for scrap with an acetylene torch at the L. J. Lewis Iron and Steel Company. An explosion of fumes from the empty tank shattered his left leg, and he was sent to Sacred Heart Hospital. The leg was amputated at the knee, but John died to loss of blood that evening.
He was born in Wilmington, DE, and his family moved to Danville, PA around 1890. The family then moved to Whitehall, then Fullerton and finally Allentown in 1906.
John went to Church of the Immacculate Conception and was affiliated with Calvary Council, No 528, Knights of Columbus, and Allentown Aerie No. 110, Fraternal Order of Eagles.
He is buried in row 55, middle section, in sacred heart cemetary. drive up from bottom.
