About John Meadows
"John and Nancy (Gwinn) Meadows arrived in Daviess County in November 1841 with their family of five children and Nancy's widowed sister, Martha (Gwinn) Graham, and her son, John. They journeyed all the way from Greenbrier River in Virginia by wagon. The family wintered two miles south of the site of Pattonsburg and in the spring John bought a claim and settled 1 1/2 miles east in the Virginia Ridge area. This farm was eventually bequeathed to their son Joseph, who willed it to his son, Charles Logan and it is still owned by a descendant, John and Nancy's great granddauther, Maxine Meadows Morris and her husband, Woodrow.
John and Nancy lived the remainder of their lives in Daviess county where John became a prosperous farmer. He was also, for several years, president of the Farmers' Bank of Gallatin. After his death in 1880 Mrs. Meadows moved into Pattonsburg where she lived until her death in 1891." Excerpt from Pattonsburg Centennial Publication
