About John Harris Melton

John Harris Melton came to Cole Co. in 1846 on a big wagon train from Lincoln Co., Ky. He is the son of John Early Melton and Catherine Coldiron who were married in Pulaski Co., Ky in 1811. Joel Melton sold him some land (family legend says gave) which he promptly sold and bought land farther down the road in Miller Co. John H. married Eliza Catherine Pittman also from Lincoln Co. soon after arriving in Cole Co. They raised a large family and remained in Miller. John Harris has two stones the first was placed when he died in 1868 and the second was placed after Eliza's death and it is a combined stone with Eliza on one side and John on the other. This stone was placed by their son James Early Melton.
