“JOHN MERRITT, son of Henry, married 2 Mar., 1655, Elizabeth, daughter of Thomas Wyborne and Elizabeth____________of Boston, who died Oct., 1656, [typo or misread, should be Nov 1676. See further down] leaving property by Will 12 Sept. 1656 [should be 1676 because his record continues up to 1676 “when he fell from the works on the rocks”] to her and her infant daughter, Deborah. Able to bear arms in Scituate 1643, Administrator of Will of Henry Merritt 6 June 1654 (Plymouth Records Vol. 3, p. 51). A grand juror, 3 June, 1656, Constable 6 June, 1660. On jury 29 Oct. 1673. Land assigned to him 1673. He and Charles Stockbridge complain against Isaac Chittenden for setting a fence on the common near Merrit’ Meadow 29 Oct. 1673. Occupied his father’s homestead. Inquest 6 March, 1676, on the body of John Merritt, he having fallen from the works on the rocks 1 March, 1676. On 7 June, 1677, the Court orders that Elizabeth, wife of John Merritt, deceased shall have the improvements of the estate until the children come of age (Plymouth Reg. Wills, Vol. 2, P. 68)”
