About John Meyer
Mr. Meyer, founder of the women's apparel manufacturing concern John Meyer of Norwich.
Mr. Meyer was a director of the Norwich State Bank and Trust Company and in 1973 was voted “citizen of the year” of Norwich. He was a member of the Petroleum Products Control Board of Connecticut and served on the Backus Hospital Board and the University of Connecticut Foundation board.
A member of the national cabinet of the United Jewish Appeal, Mr. Meyer also served on the board of overseers of the Jewish Theological Seminary of America and as national chairman of the American Friends of the Israel Museum. He was a founder and a patron of the Latin‐American‐Rabbinical Seminary in Buenos Aires and a director of Beth Jacob Synagogue in Norwich. He was voted “man of the year” for 1971 by the American Jewish Committee.
Mr. Meyer was a. lieutenant (jg.) in the Navy in World War II, serving in the South Pacific.
