About John Miles

John Miles, 81, old time resident of Afton died suddenly Tuesday night December 5th. He was well and went to town that day and had a tooth extracted. He and his brother Dan, 79 were living together. His brother Dan passed away Dec 5th in the morning after a short illness. We will have a sketch of John's life next week. Funeral services will be held in Logan. Those who left to attend the funeral are: Owen Miles and Mr and Mrs Albert Miles sons of Mr Miles, grandsons, Isador Shuster and John, LeRoy, George, Klosner and several others from Afton

John Miles, 81 146 East Second South, prominent business man and church worker and resident of Logan since 1919, died Dec 5, about midnight at his home of a heart attack./ His death came within 24 hours of that of his brother, Daniel who died at the John miles home Monday. He was the last surviving member of a family of six brothers and sisters. Mr Miles had been a successful merchant and had operated large dry-farming interests in Star Valley. He had also been active ecclesiastically. He was born January 26, 1863, in Big Cottonwood and when one year old was taken by his family to Smithfield where he spent his early life. In 1881 he married Alice R. Klosner in the Salt Lake endowment house. She passed away February 5, 1941. After their marriage, the couple spent a short time in Mink Creek, Idaho, where they operated a store. From there they went to Star Valley where Mr Miles operated dry farming interests and was a merchant. The couple were parents to 15 children. Survivors include the following children; mis laura Miles and Mrs ray W Carlson, logan; mrs Morris Jordon, Idaho Falls; Mrs Thomas Hale, Albert and Owen Miles of Afton, 18 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. Mr Miles was a member of the Eleventh Ward and of the Logan stake high priest quorum. He had been active in civic capacities and was a city councilman in Afton Wyoming. Funeral services were held in the Logan Eleventh Ward chapel Friday December 8, 1944. Prayer at home by Mayor of Logan City, William Evans. Postlude and Prelude, Prof. S.E. Clark at the organ. Invocation by Samuel Weston, Duet: Dorthea Rasmuson and George B. Everton. Speaker, Supt. J.W. Kirkbride, Supt. Cache County Schools, who had been a school teacher at Grover Wyoming and had known this pioneer family most of his life. Violin Solo: Miss Norma Olson, acc. Prof S.E. Clark. Speaker A. George Raymond of Logan Seventh Ward also had been a resident of Star Valley. Remarks: Bishop W.Loyal Hall, Logan Eleventh Ward. Solo: George B. Everton, accompanied by Mrs Donald E. Smith. Benediction by Marion Everton. Interment was in the Logan City cemetery. The grave was dedicated by George B. Everton. Flowers were cared for by the Eleventh Ward Relief Society. Pall bearers were High Priests of the Logan Stake.
