Middlesex Co, VA Will Book C (1740-1748) written 21 Feb 1742 and recorded 1 Mar 1742:

  • "In the name of God Amen, I John Miller of the County of Middlesex, being weak through age and indisposition of body but enjoying the true use and force of my reason and understanding do make my will and dispose of my estate in manner following. Viz:
  • Imprimis, I leave my soul to the mercy of Almighty God who gave me my being hoping through the mercy of almighty God and the merits of Jesus Christ my Saviorer (sic) to obtain the pardon and remission of all my sins and my body to be decently interred in the burial place upon the plantation where I now live at the pleasure and direction of my son, Christopher Miller and my son-in-law, John Berry, whom I leave executors to my will.
  • Secundo, I give to John Berry, during the life of my daughter Mary Berry, wife to the said John, one hundred acres of land containing the plantation where I now dwell all on this side of the creek and bounded by Col. Armistead Churchills Wagon Road from the Creeks Mouth and after the death of my above mentioned daughter Maray (sic) Berry, tis my desire the said land should return to my son Christopher Miller or his heirs.
  • Tertio, I give all my other lands to my son Christopher above named containing one hundred and fifty acres including the plantation on which he now lives.
  • Quarto, I leave all my cattle, horses, and hoggs to my dear and loving wife during her life and after her decease to my daughter, Mary Berry.
  • Quinto, I leave all my household furniture to my dear wife during her life and after her decease to my son Christopher Miller, my daughter Mary Berry and my daughter Michael Joel, to be eaqually divided among them.
  • Sixto, I leave a Negro fellow named Will to my wife during her life and after her decease to my above mentioned daughter Michael Joel.
  • Septimo, I leave to my daughter, Ann Barbee and John, her husband, one shilling and the same sum to wit, one shilling to my daughter, Eliza Bowler and her husband.
  • I also leave to my daughter, Hannah Rodes and William, her husband, the sum of one shilling. Ultimo, I leave all the corn and tobacco now upon the Plantation to John Berry to pay my personal debts. This is my will and the way I desire my estate to be disposed of revoking any other will or testament made by me formerly. Dated February the twenty first one thousand seven hundred and forty two. Signed sealed and delivered in prescence of Robert Elliot, John Stevens. John Miller (his mark)."
