ohn Layton Mills, of Tansor Court, Oundle, Esq, was one of those listed in the London Gazette, 15 th November 1910, as one of those [for Northamptonshire] ...who were nominated for Sheriffs in the King’s Bench Division of the High Court of Justice on the morrow of Saint Martin, in the first year of the reign of King George the Fifth and in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and ten. The 1911 census reflects this honor and also shows that he was in the Territorials, and, as indicated by the Gazette, the Mills were now resident at Tansor Court, which has been desc ribed as a grand Manor House in the small village of Tansor, built about 1700 in the Elizabethan styleAs is so often the case, the transcription of the census is somewhat idiosyncratic, and I have amended it where I can, and some of those with the family in 1901 can be identified. One member not present was son John Charles Trueman Mills. Unless he was the John Mills enrolled as a pupil/boarder at Evelyns, Hillingdon, in Uxbridge, I have not been able to find a record for him. However, there is another son listed who had been born in 1901
