Obituary dated Friday, October 9, 1964 from Winona Daily News - Page 2, Column 2 John Modjeski, 88, Winona resident, died at 12:45 a.m. today at Buena Vista Nursing Home, Wabasha, after a long illness. He was born in Poland June 19, 1876, to Mr. and Mrs. August Modjeski. He came to this country and settled here 80 years ago. He married Rose Lukaszewski Nov. 16, 1901, at St. Stanislaus Church and was employed by the Chicago & North Western Railway until his retirement. Survivors include his wife; five sons, J. George and Sylvester, Winona, and Frank, James and Richard, Milwaukee, Wis.; four daughters, Mrs. Mary Malotke, Winona, Mrs. Stanley (Frances) Eichman and Mrs. Joseph (Helen) Michalowski, Milwaukee, and Mrs. Stanley (Edna) Radziminski, Albany, N.Y.; 18 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; one brother, Vincent, Winona, and one sister, Mrs. Genevieve Wilson, St. Paul, Minn. Funeral services will be at 8:30 a.m. Monday at Watkowski Funeral Home and at 9 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. the Rev. Donald J. Winkels officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Sunday. A Rosary will be recited at 8.
