John Wesley Monk

John Wesley, son of John and Mary Young Monk was born March 30. 1876 in Johnson County, Iowa, and departed this life at his home in East Clearfield, la., Dec 22, 1954, age 78 years, 8 months. 22 days. He came when a child with his parents to Lenox, la., where he attended school and grew to manhood.

On Dec 4. 1901 he was unit in marriage to Grace M Voss at the home of her parents, Mr and Mrs Jas Voss, southeast of Clearfield. Mr Monk followed farming near Diagonal and Clearfield until 1924 when they moved to Omaha where he had employment in a box factory.

In 1943 they returned to Clearfield where they have since resided Mr and Mrs Monk were the parents of four children, three sons. Claude E of Clearfield, F Merl of Omaha, and Donald G of Las Vegas, Nev., one daughter Mrs Zelda Frame of Clearfield. Besides his wife Grace and the children, are 15 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; also one brother, B F Monk of Bethel, Kan.; three sisters, Ella Haley of Omaha, Neb.; Fannie Stahl of Diagonal; and Myna Newburn of Sioux City; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p. m. Sunday at J R Crew Funeral Home. Burial in Clearfield cemetery. Rev H Ball officiated at the services.
