About John Montgomery
There is a record of the death of John Montgomery, Junior in 1776 in Naas, co Kildare. The family went on to have another John in c.1780 (John Burgh Montgomery). John the Settler's father is not named as a son anywhere in the family documents or in John Of Naas' will. Therefore I believe he was not one of John and Nancy's sons. John the Settler's memoirs say that his father's mother was a Bell daughter. However no evidence has been found of this. I believe this was invented to conceal the fact that his father was illegitimate. Mary Pearson
