About Mary Montgomery

The beech tree: a history and genealogy of the Boake family of England, Ireland, America and Canada from 1333-1970. By Dorothy Sue Boake

  • EPHRAIM BOAKE son of Thomas and Abigail (Eves) Boake was born at Edenderry 27th May 1723.
  • As a young man he managed to amass quite a good deal of property as he owned lands at Mullamast, Co. Kildare, owned a house and a mill at Baltinglass, Co. Wicklow, and owned a large piece of land at Ballitore on which he built his home, known as Boakefield House.
  • SARAH BOAKE [Sister] eldest child, was born 8th Dec 1712 near Mountmellick.
  • She married Thomas Parke of Baranstown, Co. Wicklow at Ballitore on 9th Jan 1731/32.
  • This marriage was recorded at Carlow, probably lived at Baltinglass and they had at least two children [Three, Mary Parke being one of them]
  • EPHRAIM PARKE [Her brother] purchased property at Baltinglass from his uncle and brother-in-law (Ephraim Boake).

Reminiscences of John Montgomery

  • p. 22. My father married Mary Park, daughter of Thomas Park of Raheine, near Baltinglass.
  • [He] had also been very unfortunate. He stood security for a tax gatherer, who gathered up all the taxes of the county and embarked for America.
  • Consequently the old gentleman was instantly arrested for the payment of the amount.
  • Grandmother arrived just in time to see him expire, for she had already raised the amount for his release.
  • Grandmother had a small income, but not sufficient to support so large a family. My mother was taken by Thomas Boke [Ephraim] of Bokefield, who was her uncle, having married a Miss Park [Margery]. She was brought up by him as a Quaker.

1847-1856 Eastern Province Herald.
