About John Moss
John Moss was tried on 21-10-1829 at Preston, Lancashire and found guilty of house breaking and sentenced to 14 years imprisonment. He was sent to Australia as a convict on board the "Maquis of Huntley" arriving in 1830.
He gained his "Ticket of Leave" on the 28-8-1841 and was granted "Permission to Marry" Emma Foster.
John and Emma appear to have lived at Dulwich and later at Saltwater Creek, both in the Singleton District. They give their occupation as farmers. John and Emma were baptised into the Mormon Church at Newcastle N.S.W. by Elder Edwin Kearsley on 3-11-1870. Also baptised at the same time were their children Caroline, Joseph, George, Fredrick, Emma, Eliza, Robert Thomas and Elizabeth.
John and Emma Moss emigrated to Utah U.S.A. in 1873, [ship unknown]. Nine of their ten children accompanied them. Their eldest son also named John and his wife Jane remained in Australia. Mary had married Henry William Walkey and they and their children also travelled to Utah.
