About John Daniel Newton, Sr

John Daniel Newton, 85, of RFD 7 died Thursday at Riverside Convalescent Home. A native of Stafford, he was a retired fisherman, former operator of the Fredericksburg Fish Market and a World War I veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Annie Byrd Finney Newton; two daughters, Mrs. Margie H. Ballard and Mrs. Bertha Dent, both of Stafford; eight sons, James N. Newton of Spotsylvania, Wallace F. Newton of Hartwood, Willie T., Earl C., Paul S., Roland L., Henry W. and John D. Newton, Jr., all of Fredericksburg; 26 grandchildren; four great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Wheeler & Thompson Funeral Home. The Rev. Herbert Hall will officiate and interment with full military honors will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home tonight from 7:30 to 8:30.
