Memphians know very well the legacy of John Overton, grandson of one of the original proprietors of Memphis. Overton, once believed to be one of the wealthiest men in the state of Tennessee, was a banker, businessman, and member of the state house and senate. Overland Park and Overton high school are name for him and his family.
