John I. Owens, born about 1685 and died about 1754 in Westmoreland County, VA. He married an unknown woman before 1720 and had 2 children; Nathaniel, Samuel.
Elinor married secondly by 1726 John Owens, a widower with a son named Samuel [4] That they were married by 1726 is demonstrated in the will of Henry Gallop, brother of Elinor's first husband. He left his entire estate to the four Gallop daughters, whom he called "cuzens."
1735-1743 King George County Deed Book 2 (Antient Press) pp. 6-7 Indenture made 11th May 1735 between JOHN OWENS of King George County & ELLINOR his wife late Widdow & relict of ROBERT GOLLOP late of King George County deced of one part and GEORGE JAMES of County Stafford of other part .. Whereas Robert Gollop in his life time during the coverture between him & Elinor .. seized of tract in King George granted unto BRYAN FOLEY & him by deed from Proprietor's 24th February MDCCXIV/XV wherein the said Elinor is by Law intituled to her Dower .. upon death of Robert Gollop ..' land to be vested in his four Daughters vizt. Mary, Anne, Elinor & Phillis .. three of whom with JAMES BRISSEE, RICHARD ELKINS & ROBERT DUNCOM their several husbands sold to said George James .. This Indenture Witnesseth .. for sum Five pounds currt: Money .. do discharge all manner of dower rights .. Presence James Lovell, John x Owens M. Battaley, Antho: Haynie Elinor x Owens At a court held 6th February 1735 .. acknowledged receipt consideration money and Elinor being solely examined .. her free consent ..John I. Owens married Elinor Bryant Gallop (1735 in Richmond County, VA), widow of Capt. Robert Gallop. Elinor was the daughter of ? Bryant and Lucy Doniphan. She was a native of the Patawomeck Tribe. The Patawomeck Tribe (aka Potomac Tribe) formed in the 1600's along the Potomac River in Stafford County. In the 1600's there was a population of about 800 natives. Today, there is an estimated 150 mixed bloods still residing in the region. Chief Japasaw was the leader of the tribe, and brother to Chief Powhatan, father of Pocahontas. Pocahontas' mother was a member of the Patawomeck Tribe.
