In the name of God Amen the twenty fourth day of February in the Year of Our
Lord 1767. I, John Oxley of Bertie County, in the Province of North
Carolina, being very sick of body, but of Perfect mind and Memory thanks
begiven to the Almighty God for the Same, I Knowing that it is Appointed for
all men once to die do make good in this my Last Will and Testament, that is
to say, First of All I, Give and I Recommend my Soul, to Almighty God that
Gave it, and body, I recommend to the Earth, to be buried in a decent
Christian manner at the discretion of my Executors, not doubting but as the
Gernal Resurection I shall receive the same again by the mighty Power of God
and as Touching such Worldy Estate where with it hath Pleased God to bless
me with in this Life, I Give demise and dispose of the Same in manner and
form folling.
In primus, I give and bequeath to my Beloved Son George Oxley, three hundred
acres of Land with the Plantation he now lives on and any Negro amn ____ I
am which Land I give to him his heirs and assigns forever
___________ I give and bequeath to my beloved John Oxley, my minor
Plantation with three hundred and fifty acres of Land therewith it being
part of two tracts which Land I give John his heirs and assigns forever,
reserving a forth right and priviledge of the land and plantation to my
dearly beloved wife Olive Oxley during her widowhood if she Pleae to Live
_____ and I likewise give two hundred acres of land lying on Cair Swamp,
being part of wills an Redits tract , to be equally divided bytween my
______ George Oxley and John which and I give to them their heirs and
assigns forever, also I give to my son John two Negro boys one Named ____
and the Other named Dick, one all Iron Pot, and one small gun and all tools
and iron untencels belonging to the plantation and one handmill and mair
colt and four cows, two____ and a new feather bed all which I give to him
his heirs and assigns forever
I give and bequeath to my Son in Law Isiah Johnson and Mary his Wife a Negro
boy named Ben and after their death to their Son Elijah Johnson ____ without
I give to be the property of __ other Isaiah John which siad Negro I ____ to
the ___ of Olive Oxley my well beloved wife.
Seven years I give and bequeath to my beloved daughter Olive Oxley one negro
boy named Tom to her and her disposal and ______
Item, I give and bequeath my son in law John Parrott and Elizabeth his wife
five Shillings Starling
Item, I give and bequeath to my beloved Son in law John Ray and Rach his
wife, one negro girl named Silliby and fiveteen pounds proclamation money
and one young horse and the feather bed whereon I now lie.
Item, I give and bequeath to my beloved daughter Martha Oxley one negro girl
named Jeeny and fifteen pounds proclamation, a Iron Pot and a gray mair, and
one feather bed and furniture all which I give to her and her disposial
Item, I give and bequeath to my son in law William Fleetwood one shilling
starling
Item, I give and bequeath to my Grandaughter Sylvanna Fleetwood six pounds
proclamation money
Item, I give to my Dearly Wife Ollive Oxley one Negro woman named Pender
and three cows, _____ and one large stear and all my hoggs and one horse
called Bachallor and after he Death or marriage I give the Negro woman
Pender to my son George Oxley and I also lend to my ____ wife all my
household furniture that is not already Disposed of during her widowhood and
after to my son John Oxley. And all the rest of my ____ that are not
already disposed of I leave to be Equally divided amongst my three
daughters, Olive, Rachel and Martha and my Wife.
Item, I give and bequeath to my friend Joseph Parker , the Elder ____three
pounds Proclamation money
Item I make constitute and appoint my Well Beloved Son George Oxley and
Isaiah Johnson and John Crickett Executors of this my last will and
testament and I do hereby disallow revoke and _____ and make void, all other
former wills and bequests before by me made, rattifying and confirmed and
this and none other to be my Last Will and Testament in testamony Where of I
have herunto sset my hand and Seal the day and year I have written.
